The Shillim Foundation promotes the conservation of wild places through hosting collaborations between artists and conservationists. Through combining culture, environment, and social responsibility the Foundation aims to help us connect with, and conserve, the precious landscapes that make us who we are.
The Shillim Foundation took seed nearly 20 years ago, when I first began working on the 5,000-acre conservation and retreat in the Western Ghats of India. Over the decades, Shillim has been a place of restoration, renewal, as well as struggle and frustation. Through this landscape I have realized the importance of wilderness, not only as a natural system, but also for its ability to nurture us, inspire us, possibly to even save us.
